Progress Report – October 2020

Here are some updates,news items and resources from our research and outreach since our last progress report. We are just barely getting this progress report out in October because we were waiting for significant developments to report.This has been a huge month in terms of workload and accomplishments! Telling the accomplishments below hardly provides a window into the hard work, teamwork, and support that has characterized this month. Please read between the lines and celebrate with us!!!

1. Executive Director. The AWC Board is thrilled to announce that they have selected Kathleen Sullivan for the Executive Director position. The Board went through a thorough screening and interviewing process to select the candidate with the skills that we need immediately to open the warming center as well as skills to take the AWC to the next level. Kathleen will start off with the responsibility for opening and operating the warming center in compliance with COVID standards and training staff to follow CDC protocols.
2. Astoria Warming Center and COVID.The AWC has been working closely with Clatsop Public Health to develop a 40+ page COVID protocol manual for safe operation this winter. Dr. Ellen Heinitz of Clatsop Public Health is providing professional support to ensure safety for all guests and staff this season. Due to COVID, the warming center will be operating….
