We’re a group of concerned individuals who care about the homeless in Clatsop County, Oregon!
This website is created to share information on:
- activities in the county regarding homelessness,
- groups in other areas that are making a difference,
- best practices, and
- anything & everything that makes sense to share!
Are you homeless and looking for support?
This website focuses on educating the middle class about homelessness and highlighting solutions that work. We do offer a partial list of local nonprofits that do provide services. It can be found at https://friendsoftheunsheltered.org/nonprofits/.
You might wonder about the photograph of the library; what’s the significance? Two things. First, the library is one of the few places the unsheltered can “hang out” indoors during the day. A good thing. Second, the bench in front of the library has been removed. Around Astoria other benches and a picnic table used by the homeless have been removed. Subtle? Not to the unsheltered. Our longer term goal is to provide a drop-in resource center where folks feel welcome.
"We have come dangerously close to accepting the homeless situation as a problem that we just can't solve."
— Linda Lingle
